Your Cover

Your MDA National Professional Indemnity covers you for civil claims, employment disputes, representation at a coronial inquiry and a wide range of medico-legal matters. The following table is a brief summary of covers and limits.

Risk Category & Gross Annual Billings

The cost of your medical indemnity insurance with MDA National will be determined depending on the type of speciality practice or procedures you undertake, the amount of gross annual billings and state in which you primarily practice.

Public Practice

If you hold a public hospital appointment alongside private practice, our policy provides automatic ‘top-up’ cover beyond what’s offered by your state government or public hospital.

This includes cover for:

  • Privacy Act breaches
  • Legal costs for investigations (AHPRA, PSR, Medicare, HCCC, etc.)
  • Defamation pursuit and defence
  • Communicable disease cover
  • Legal costs for AVO applications
  • Competition, consumer or fair-trading disputes
  • Employment and credentialing disputes
  • College training disputes
  • Loss of documents and loss of income when attending hearings

Extensive Cover to Protect Your Practice

MDA National’s Practice Indemnity Policy complements your individual Professional Indemnity Insurance, covering the liabilities of your practice entity and employees for healthcare services provided by the practice. This can include reception staff, practice managers, allied health professionals, nurses, and vicarious liability for contractors or tenants.

Cover includes defence costs for employment disputes and 24/7 medico-legal advice for practice managers and reception staff. Additional discounts of up to 50% apply if the doctors in your practice are also MDA National members for their individual indemnity insurance.

Overseas Cover

If you intend to undertake specialist or volunteer practice overseas, MDA National can provide extensions of cover in certain situations for additional peace of mind.
