New President for MDA National

A/Prof Julian Rait has been elected President of the MDA National Council, following the 2008 Annual General Meeting.
Having held the position of Vice President of MDA National for the past year, A/Prof Rait succeeds A/Prof David Watson in the role of President. A/Prof Watson held the position of President for almost 12 years.
An Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne, A/Prof Rait is a fellow of RACS and RANZCO. He currently serves as the representative of the Medical Indemnity Industry Association of Australia on the competence and performance working party of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
A member of the MDA National Council for the past four years, A/Prof Rait brings to his new role an intimate knowledge of the organisation and a strong sense of the vision for MDA National. Looking forward to his term as President, Dr Rait said,
“It is a great honour to have been elected as President of MDA National.”
“The common thread that unites all past Presidents of MDA National has been their commitment to work for the betterment of their colleagues and reinforce the doctor for doctor ethos which has been paramount to the success of the Association. This is a tradition that I intend to continue.”
Dr Beres Wenck, a GP from Brisbane, was elected Vice President at the same meeting.
