Dr David Watson returns to MDA National Presidency
Thur 15 December 2005
Following the 2005 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of MDA National, CEO, Mr Peter Forbes, is pleased to announce the election of Dr David Watson to the position of President of the MDA National Council. Dr Watson previously held the position of President from 1997 to 2004.
Dr Watson is a General Physician based at St John of God Hospital in Subiaco, Perth. He also holds a position as Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Notre Dame.
Dr Watson has been a member of the MDA National Council since 1986. It was during his first tenure as President that MDA National successfully expanded its membership and operations beyond Western Australia.
Dr Watson was nominated for the position of President by Dr Andrew Miller following his decision not to re-nominate for the position. During 2005, Dr Miller’s joint position as President of MDA National and Chair of the industry group, Medical Indemnity Insurers Association of Australia (MIIAA) had been challenging to balance and he has decided that he can best serve the indemnity industry by directing his focus to the national industry body.
Additionally, Dr Miller was recently appointed as the industry representative on the Abbott Review Panel requiring an even greater commitment from him to national indemnity issues.
In returning to the role of President, Dr Watson aims to build on his depth of experience and continue to promote the stable growth of the MDA National Group as a leading provider of medical indemnity services to doctors throughout Australia.
