Competition Winners Announced
Elective Essay Competition
This year we received an increased number of entries in the Elective Essay Competition with students planning medical electives all over the globe from South Africa to Sri Lanka, Tanzania to Taiwan.
Entrants were asked to address the topic:
"Part of your journey as a medical student in Australia involves undertaking a medical elective. With regard to your chosen location, tell us in 500 words how your medical elective will be a valuable experience in the course of becoming a medical practitioner."
We are pleased to announce that the winners are:
- Winning Student $2,000 Bursary: Katie Fletcher, University of Queensland
- First Runner Up $1,000 Bursary: Tim Sullivan, University of Sydney
- Second Runner Up $500 Bursary: Ruella D'Cruz, University of New South Wales

Good Cause Photo Competition
This year we introduced a new initiative - the Good Cause Elective Competition 2008. Students were asked to send a special or meaningful photo taken while on their elective for the chance to win.
We are pleased to announce that the winners are:
- Winning Student: J Parker, QLD - Country of elective period was India.
- First Runner Up: Nina Lee Jang Lau, VIC - Country of elective period was India.
- Second Runner Up: P McGiffin, QLD - Country of elective period was Fiji.
Jake Parker chose Hamlin Fistula® Relief and Aid Fund to donate his $1000 prize money.
