It's fair to say that no one wants to think about insurance until you've just had a car accident or come home to find your house burgled. In essence medical indemnity insurance is no different.
For medical students it's only that rare occasion whilst undertaking your medical elective overseas and you find yourself unsupervised and feeling out of your depth or make an error of judgment in your private clinical work that your mind immediately questions "now who did I join back in Student Orientation? Do I even have a medical indemnity policy?" Having your own private medical indemnity insurance above and beyond what is provided by your university and/or hospital gives you peace of mind.
MDA National Insurance provides medical indemnity cover to medical students through the Student Indemnity Policy.
What does the Student Indemnity Policy cover?
Offering great flexibility the Student Indemnity Policy provides medical indemnity cover for:
- Medical electives (in all countries around the world excluding the USA)
- Medical scholarships
- Clinical placements (including placement external to university curriculum)
- Private clinical work (under appropriate medical supervision)
- Good Samaritan acts
Subject to underwriting approval.
How much do we insure you for?
Up to $1,000,000 in the aggregate for all claims made under the policy. A sub-limit of $500,000 in the aggregate for defence costs for investigations and allegations of sexual misconduct or criminal conduct.
How much does it cost?
The cost is $15.00 (including taxes) per policy.
As the risk associated with underwriting medical students is low, it means that premiums can also be kept low. Once you pay $15.00 (including taxes) you can feel confident there are no hidden costs to be outlayed should an incident occur at any time under the policy.

You will need to be a student member of MDA National to apply for a Student Indemnity Policy. Student membership of MDA National is FREE and applications can be made online.

Download a Student Indemnity Policy online OR call Member Services on FREECALL 1800 011 255 and asked for a Student Indemnity Pack to be posted to you today.
