New President for MDA National
Fri 14 November 2008A/Prof Julian Rait has been elected President of the MDA National Council, following the 2008 Annual General Meeting.Having held the position of Vice President of MDA National for the past year, A/Prof Rait succeeds A/Prof David Watson in the role of President. A/Prof Watson held the position of President for almost 12 years.

2008 AMA WA President’s Award for Peter Forbes
Sat 14 June 2008This year the AMA WA President’s Award went to Mr Peter Forbes, Managing Director of MDA National Insurance. Mr Forbes was presented with the award for his commitment ‘to ensure that doctors in WA - and throughout the nation - get the support, reassurance and guidance they need when facing stressful times caused by their legal predicament’.

On Saturday 14 June 2008, the Australian Medical Association (WA) held its annual awards and charity dinner. Among the guests, Health Minister Jim McGinty, Deputy Leader of the Federal Opposition Julie Bishop, Perth’s Immediate Past Lord Mayor, Dr Peter Natrass and Federal AMA President, Dr Rosanna Capolingua.
Each year the AMA WA presents awards to honor those who have made an outstanding contribution either to medicine or the health and welfare of the community within Western Australia.
This year the AMA WA President’s Award went to Mr Peter Forbes, Managing Director of MDA National Insurance. Mr Forbes was presented with the award for his commitment ‘to ensure that doctors in WA - and throughout the nation - get the support, reassurance and guidance they need when facing stressful times caused by their legal predicament’.
In thanking the AMA WA for the prestigious award, Mr Forbes accepted it on behalf of the MDA National Membership, Council, Board and very loyal staff. During his speech, he took the opportunity to remind the audience of MDA National’s close alignment with the medical profession and guiding rule since its foundation in 1925 ‘to protect the character and interests of its Members’.
The 2008 AMA WA Award was presented to Professor Bryant Stokes ‘whose distinguished career has significantly contributed to the development and improvement of health care standards throughout Australia, particularly in the field of neurosurgery’.
